What follows describes a separate research pipeline, fine-tuning our own small model, that is not yet deployed and does not power any feature a teacher can use today.
Most AI grading collapses a student’s understanding into right or wrong. We think that throws away the most useful signal a teacher could get. So instead of one score, we’re training a model to evaluate a response across five separate dimensions of evidence.

Can they explain why or how, not just recite what?

Can they use the concept on a new, concrete case?

Does the idea generalize to a different context or domain?

A four-level scale, not a binary
Each dimension is scored on this scale independently — a student can be Strong on Accuracy while still Emergingon Transfer. And because the scale is ordered, we don’t just grade a probe right or wrong — we measure how far off a prediction is, and in which direction, using an ordinal-distance metric during evaluation rather than plain accuracy.
Non-negotiable
Rules KORA will never break.
These aren’t guidelines or best practices. They are design constraints baked into KORA from the start.
Never decide curriculum without a teacher.
KORA proposes. Teachers decide. No KORA output becomes curriculum until a teacher makes it so.
Never evaluate a student without teacher oversight.
KORA scores are information for teachers — never a grade, never an intervention, never a record, without teacher judgment first.
Never fabricate historical images.
KORA will not generate AI images of historical events, people, or artifacts presented as real. Where a visual is needed, it points to real sources.
Never position teaching as a content problem.
Teaching is judgment, trust, and relationships. KORA handles the repetitive formatting work — it does not touch the rest.
